Bihari people are migrating through out India as labourers since the 19th century. It’s just only they are travelling in the states of India, but alos to Mauritius, Malay, Jamaica, Trinidad and British Guiana. But as of now, the migration has slowed down due to the steps taken by the Bihar government which is appreciable, leading to the upliftment of the bihari citizens.
Recently there were incidents like Bihari girls plowed the fields for rain standing naked. The unmarried indian girls without dress, those who are the unmarried young daughters of the farmers in east Indian state plowed parched fields naked to embarrass the weather gods for monsoon rain. Witnesses say that this social custom in these areas are most trusted and the villagers continue this practice untill the rain showers heavily.
The above picture illustrates a Bihari Lady woking on the road side. But to surprise there are also Girls from Bihar who have made upto the the beauty pageant in the United States. A bihari girl, Reshoo Pande won Miss India USA crown in keenly contested pageant held at Wilkins Theatre, New Jersey. Another bihari girl, Tanya Gupta is the first asian to be selected as “Merrill Presidential Scholar” by the New York’s Cornell University. They are graduating Cornell seniors who demonstrated an outstanding scholastic achievement, potentially contributing to society with strong leadership ability.
On the otherside, there are also incidents like young bihari girls sold or forcibly taken to cities like Chandigarh, Meeru and Agra as Maids. The poor and illiterate bihari girls are forced to work in the countryside of Punjab as bonded labourers. These indian girls are sold to agents by their own fathers for farm works and household works. The Ranchi Police busted such a racket. We must thank the Ranchi police for stopping a group of indian tribal girls at a railway station enrouted to New Delhi.
